Marco Cape, an Albanian-American youth, begins today's campaign for the New York State Assembly.
Cape, who came to the US at an early age, told Voice of America that in Staten Island neighbourhood, where he competes, there are many Albanians, but many do not register to vote.
The new republican candidate says he hopes to mobilise this part of voters in the difficult race ahead.
Marco Cape was never a politician, but he worked for the campaigns of others.
He will first campaign in the race within the republican party in the area, where the Republicans traditionally win over the Democrats.
Marko Cape says Albanians are a majority community in Staten Island, but funds are received by other communities that are registered in the elections.
Marco Cape plans to fight over some issues that interest the community he represents.
He came to America like many other Albanians and his American dream is to make a difference, entering politics.
