Wessel, in a Facebook post, has even the most severe criticism of the European Union that is being indifferent to these developments and is also opening Serbia's integration perspective.
As long as he does this, he says, the EU is desperately wanting to keep former UCK members in prison, citing the Drenica Group here.
This is the full statement of Wessel:
Early release of war criminal Miodrag Sholaya, former member of the “Scorpions”, is a shameful act that exposes Belgrade's lack of will to impose justice. A year ago he was released without serving a full sentence, Sasa Cvjetani. Even those of the same notorious unit that carried out the Podujevo massacre, where 14 civilians, half of whom were minors, were massacred.
Brussels' silence over failing to interfere with the processes for many white Serb massacres, procrastinated or left in the midst of ridiculous, face-to-face sentences, even for the early release of war criminals. Here it clearly seems that the European Union is functioning on double standards.
On the one hand, it is condoning these actions, thus giving Serbia the green light to break justice, hurting the victims of massacres for the second time. On the other hand, the EU's legal mission in Kosovo has condemned without evidence and facts and is unjustly keeping freedom fighters like those of the Drenica “Drenica” Groups in prison.
Kosovo should not allow history to be manipulated and victims to match the gelatin. So as prime minister, I'm going to finish my initiative for a tribulal that, under transitional justice, will bring these criminals to justice.
