By September 1st, businesses in Albania and Kosovo will burden the payment of the fee for transition to the Nation Street. The concessionary company is expected to set assembly of scales for trucks. The weights will serve for monitoring heavy vehicles and for differentiating the fee, ranging from 16 euros to 23 euros for heavy trucks.
This measure, according to the company's argument, has come at the request of the Albanian government, and the goal is to protect road elements from possible damage resulting from the flow of heavy vehicles.
The tariff, set on Nation's road, has become a serious obstacle to businesses that have called on the government to find a solution.
Official Insta data shows that exports have dropped by 2.6%, and the main impact has given the reduction in construction materials exports to Kosovo.
“The taxing of the nation's road has a direct impact on the decline of construction materials”
Kosovo officials, meanwhile, have urged the Albanian government to discuss finding a solution. The tax on the Nation Road was imposed last year and hosted protests from both residents and businesses.
Small cars crossing the Nation's road are forced to pay 5 euros on VAT, buses on 11 euros, 16 euros middle trucks and heavy trucks 23 euros.
