He related this account today during the certificate distribution ceremony for the entrepreneurship field held in the National Library. He told young people present that, along with Hashim Thaci, he had staged a protest in that building on January 23, 1990, when he was a similar age.

He added that “This protest sparked other massive demonstrations that were spread as avalanches across Kosovo and... accelerated the end of the Yugoslav Communist League”. At the end of the post, he writes that his next fight is fighting corruption and nepotism to ensure new opportunities for young people so they don't need to leave the country.

Wessel's full delivery:

At the certificate delivery ceremony for the entrepreneurship that was held in the National Library, I confessed to the young people present for an event of mine three decades ago.

On January 23, 1990, at the same site where this ceremony was held and when I had a similar age, together with President Thaci, we organised a student protest in response to the murder of Nureddin Nureddin from Skopje's Harachina.

This protest sparked other massive demonstrations that were distributed as avalanches across Kosovo and inspired tens of thousands of Albanians who broke out in revolt against the Yugoslav regime.

They drew international attention and accelerated the end of the Yugoslav Communist League, which was holding the 14th congress in the same period.

Fortunately, those times are behind us and today we enjoy freedom and independence, and today's war is not against the occupant but against corruption and unemployment. So I promised young people that as prime minister I will fight corruption and nepotism to ensure new opportunities so that they can build the future within the country.
