Congressmans Ilhan Omar and Rashid Tlaib planned to visit eastern Jerusalem and the West Coast.
This decision, according to Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovly, is in line with Israel's stance not to allow the introduction of anyone in the country who opposes Israel's policy in relation to Palestine.
Omar described Israel's move as “an insult to democratic values and a shocking response to a visit by government officials from an ally nation”.
The Israeli government's decision was supported by US President Donald Trump, who was very tough with democratic representatives in Congress.
“Israel would show great weakness if it allowed the two democratic parliamentary Omar and Tlaib to enter the country. They hate the Jewish people and all Israel, and nothing else can change their idea”, Trump wrote on social networks.
US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman also said that the US “supports and respects the Israeli Government's decision to deny congressmen's entry”.
Several American-American groups have voiced themselves against the ban, calling on Israel to allow each member of Congress to visit the country and look closely at the situation.
