Josep Borrell Fontelles is the Spanish politician nominated by the European Council to replace Federica Moghrin in the position of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Borrell is Minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Co-operation in Pedro Sanchezi's government in Spain, writes Periscopi.
The Spaniard had held a high position in the EU even in advance, serving as president of the European Parliament from July 20th 2004 until January 16th 2007.
Borrell was born on April 24, 1947, in the village of La Popla de Segur in the province of Lleida. He grew up in a village where his father had a small oven.
The Spanish minister had joined the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party in 1975, having a long career in serving his country and then the European Union.
What concerns this political figure is the open attitude towards Kosovo independence, which can greatly complicate the EU's mediation in our dialogue with Serbia. /Periscope
