The Constitutional Court issued its ruling today, which declared the negotiating team established by the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo, co-chaired by Fatmir Limaj and Shpend Ahmeti.
He has reacted to his Facebook account about this significant event for local politics.
Ahmeti has said the party he leads [the] The PSD will accept the Constitutional decision, and from today members of the state delegation of this party will not be in this body.
Furthermore, he has reiterated his positions, that the goal was to prevent Mr. Thaci, as president of Kosovo, would further monopolize dialogue and spread decision-making to the country's highest legal institution.
This is Mr. Ahmeti:
“Today, the Constitutional Court has declared the Law on Compensities and Responsibilities of the State Delegation as a whole incompatible with the constitutional principles of the Republic of Kosovo.
The Social Democrat Party accepts this decision and wants to act on it. Consequently, members of the state delegation from the PSD ranks stop serving in this body. We entered the delegation on the condition that the delegation has competencies. Since they are no longer, then our position in the delegation is without legal significance.
The Social Democrat Party last year has taken the initiative to return the decision-making process concerning dialogue with Serbia to the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo. In a parliamentary republic, and for a state interest, we considered the process necessary for building with a unifying of political parties to harmonise attitudes and protect our state's interests in a final process of Kosovo dialogue, Serbia. Our request was also to remove President Thaci's monopoly on dialogue, and decision-making to be distributed to the country's highest legal institution.
Our request that this be done by 2/3 of the Parliament's votes was sponsored by other opposition parties. However, the delegation was created with the resolution of the Republic of Kosovo Assembly. Lacking confidence in implementing the resolution was our only and key requirement was to define the competencies of the state delegation with the Law, because only in this way could the delegation's authority be protected as the only institution that can negotiate the agreement with Serbia. Consistently, secret individuals' authorization and dating would be prevented and a quick deal could not be made.
Unfortunately, our attempt to give the competencies and decision-making power to the Parliament challenged the other two opposition parties, the LDK and the VV.
Since tomorrow we will hand over the resignations from the delegation to the Parliament. We still believe that Dialogue with Serbia is the most important political process in Kosovo today and that it needs concesus and decision making in the Assembly. Otherwise, following the challenge of LDK and VV this process now returns to the hands of the president and prime minister. We will continue to provide our constructive services through our parliamentary group. ”
