At this premiere event, British journalist Vaughn Smith, as one of the most prominent personalities of the international community of courageous journalists, will be the speaker. He will talk about his perspective on the Kosovo war, as reflected in his 1999 documentary, called “Valley”
Vaughan Smith is currently founder of Frontline Club, headquartered in London, an institute promoting independent journalism and better understanding of international news.
Given the importance of marking the 20th anniversary of Kosovo's liberation, this conversation and this discussion with Vaughn aims to highlight the role of courageous journalists who sacrifice to spread the news, the truth to the international community, and the atrocities that occurred against Kosovo's civilian population, committed by the Serbian regime.
Vaughan Smith is a British journalist with many years of experience.
He founded Frontline Club in London in 2003. This institution, which also has branches in different centers of the world, aims to promote independent journalism.
Vaughn has reported as journalist and cameraman in wars like Kosovo, Bosnia, Chechnya, Afghanistan and Iraq, as far as his work has been rewarded at international prices.
Over the years, he also directed Frontline News television, an agency promoting young journalists, in an effort to achieve a higher stage of professionalism.
Frontline television faced serious dangers during this period of time. Eight members of this media were killed reporting from war grounds.
Frontline Club, which was later founded, is a dedication to all who were sacrificed to bring news from the war zone.
Vaughan filmed the only uncontrolled images during the 1991 Arab Gulf War when he managed to disguise himself as a British Army officer, infiltrated the fighting zone.
Reporting during the 1998/1999 war on British television BBC, Vaughn was shot in his mobile phone, which he was holding in his body at the time.
This event occurred when Vaughan had filmed the attacks of Serbian forces in Presaz, Drenica.
Journalist Vaughan Smith was the first to shoot an interview with KLA commander Fehmi Ludrovcin, at how many Ladrovci in the interview had reported unmirapped.
After shooting the massacre against the Deliaj family in the village of Abri of Drenica, Vaughan had produced the documentary film Valley, dedicated to the war in Kosovo.
Before working as a journalist, Vaughan was a captain and a sergeant in the Great Britain Army, serving in Northern Ireland, Cyprus, and Germany.
He was a captain in the British Army when he won the Intermilitary Shooting Race.
