The theme of the photo competition was for wild animals and the most important prize, the Grand Prize, was given to photographers and biologist Audun Richardsen from Norway, with an amazing image of a beautiful pheasy. The bird was photographed at a branch on the Norwegian coast.

This year's “Grand Prize wins an extraordinary picture that combines technical skills and creative greatness”, says Susie Eszterhas, president of the BigPicture jury. “The photographer managed to capture the stage in a difficult position. It is evidence of how patience, devotion, and deep knowledge of the subject can produce an outstanding image. In this case, Audun spent years trying to capture this photograph and I am so grateful that he has insisted because it is really a gift to all of us. ”
