For the first time, this happened during the performance of Madonna, who participated in the finals as a guest. During the display of the song “The Futurre”, two dancers addressed the audience, one with Palestinian flags on the back and another with the Israeli flag.
After about an hour, the Hatar group, representing Iceland in the contest, unveiled the Palestinian flag and Palestinian inscriptions during the release of the results.
At the end of the competition, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) issued a statement condemning the use of the Palestinian flag during the contest.
“Eurosong is a nonpolitical event, which is contrary to competition rules. The consequences of these actions will be discussed by the executive committee of the” competition, the EBU said in a statement.
