Russian photographer Elena Chernishova [Chernysova] has taken pictures of one of the most isolated cities in the world, Norrylsk, where the day is dark while it is light.

You always have the feeling that the day will dawn, but it never happens.
Norylsk is a city over the Arctic District in Russia... in Siberia, reports the BBC.

It is one of the northernmost cities in the world with a population of 180 thousand.

Norilsk was built in the 1930 ' s by prisoners of the Gulag camps.
The “I chose Norilsk because it has an interesting history and exists in some sort of isolation because it has nothing to do with other Russian cities. She added:

It is located 400km north of the Arctic Circle, with a winter lasting nine months. During polar nights, the sun does not appear for two months.
Almost every apartment, you can see lamps imitating sunlight. They're placed by the windows. Residents keep many flowers in residences in order to compensate for all that lack of daylight and light.

When there are storms, two bus columns are organized twice a day to get residents to work.
Because of the lack of sun, residents feel terrible, sometimes in panic that the sun will never return.

When the polar day comes, people leap for joy. This too, however, has its difficulties because the nights remain with sunlight and become too hard to sleep. /Periscope
