Xhaferi highway costs Kosovo 700m euros

The highway is expected to end after six months of delay, Minister of Infrastructure, Paul Lekaj was invited tonight to the debate show “Click” RTV21.

Minister Lekaj indicated that the “Arba Xhaferi” highway is currently in the final phase and is expected to become its inauguration on May 29th.

It is true that Arbe Xhaferi Highway has had to be completed for 42 months, has not ended and problems have arisen. Either stop the project as a whole and go to arbitration or we owe you to pay those we haven't implemented the contract exactly. The Kosovo government has taken the decision to pay 53m euros and we to resolve it perhaps say the best that contributes to this project, we have decided as the Government of Kosovo to pay 53m euros and complete the project. The entire project is in the final phase, counting days, but the inauguration of the project takes place on 29 May and so we complete it as a contract.”, the minister said.

Lekaj has also shown that 65% of the sum for the highway is paid and only the rest remains to be carried out and to complete the commitment to the contractor.

I think the Government of Kosovo for 18 months has done its best possible, and almost 65 per cent of the budget and the entire project have been conducted for 18 months. We must enjoy a fact that we are having this highway that connects it to the European corridors or corridors and connects the two states and has a positive impact on economic development, free movement, and cuts the time of any citizen who went through that route, whether in the municipalities that cross them or in Skopje or other centres. Some 65 percent of this amount is the rest, and I think we complete our commitment to the contractor.

Minister Lekaj has also said that conditions on the ground set the sum of the highway.

The Minister of Infrastructure has shown that the entire highway project with additional tasks will cost Kosovo some 700m euros.
