Today the Berlin Summit is under way, where representatives of all Western Balkan countries are invited.
This summit is organised by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and France's President Emmanuel Macron.
Journalist Baton Haxhiu, who has been closely attending meetings under the Berlin Summit, has commented on developments by detailing.
The statement we received earlier, which contains a content that gives little of what will follow, is proposed in Poznan and then a 2020 meeting in Croatia”.
“Croatia has offered to organise a meeting in 2020, but imagine how hard it is to judge what will happen for a year and a half in the Balkans”.
I don't think that's gonna happen for some reason. If we enter all the chronology of how this meeting happened, it is seen that the leaders of the region have had two issues today”.
The Western Balkans' “Liders have been in meetings with the Federica Moghrin, each side separately”.
President Hashim Thaci and Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj have been at the meeting. It has been talked about continuing negotiations with Serbia and liberalising visa”.
Haxhiu has said one of the most interesting meetings was that of German Chancellor Angela Merkel with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and North Macedonia Zoran Zaev.
I believe that there have been things there that can substantially change the spirit of what will happen in the Balkans. I believe this will be reflected in tonight's”.
“Zoran Zaev, according to our information, has said that if negotiations are not opened, he is willing to resign. That's what he said at the meeting they were all together”
Journalist Haxhiu has highlighted yet another interesting moment. The visit of the Kosovo delegation to the American Embassy in Berlin, which he claims has a message.
Kosovo's “Delegation has gone to the American Embassy as conference preview and a warning”.
The “at 1500 o'clock has been held a meeting to warn that the US are in a founding way of the state of Kosovo and the continuation of dialogue to complete it”.
The “is a little biased, but it is a competition that America should be part of what will happen in the future in the Balkans”.
Haxhiu from Berlin, a direct link to the Info Magazine of Kosovo, has commented on the draft agreement that has emerged from the Berlin Summit.
According to him, this draft agreement starts with praising the successful agreement between Greece and Northern Macedonia over name disputes.
North Macedonia is pre-emptive to show the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia that success can be achieved. Such a name proposal has been under way since 1993, and 20 years have been lost and how long to achieve what has been warned then”.
This is not a victory, it's a waste of time. Actually, from Berlin, lost time in the Balkans means nothing, until for us it means a lot because much has happened since 1993”.
Will the Berlin Summit topics also be a 100% tax that Kosovo has imposed on Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina products?
“Aty is a link to the draft, which is part of the Berlin Process where the tax issue will surely be opened. I believe the Kosovo delegation will be under pressure to remove tax”.
And since we've come to this point, we shouldn't have given up, at least give us something to write down for tax removal”.
Baton Haxhiu has said it is a draft approved by participants who may change after the conference, which starts at 17:30 and is expected to end at 21:15.
He has then detailed what this draft contains, underlining the main points.
Serbia and Kosovo agreed to speed up efforts to implement existing agreements and to resume constructively in the normalisation dialogue with the EU's ease, in order to reach a comprehensive and final agreement. Participants stressed the importance of a comprehensive and transparent negotiating process, which should be accompanied by confidence building efforts. Participants agreed to intensify their efforts to create a regional economic zone in line with the Sofia Summit 2018 declaration and the 2001 Western Balkans Summit Conclusions in London”.
All participants reaffirmed their commitment to co-operate under the so-called Berlin Process. Free trade, co-operation in security issues, youth exchanges and reconciliation constitute the main pillars of the process. They reaffirmed support for the Regional Co-operation Office for Youth (RYCO). They hope for the upcoming summit in Poznan, Poland”.
“The participants agreed to boost co-operation to prevent radicalisation, combat terrorism and illegal arms trafficking, and illegal migration”.
But is the Berlin Summit “expected to bring the Blow of Change” to the Western Balkans?
The first “, this draft is for status quo and does not change anything in the Balkans. I don't think it's gonna be like this at the end of the day, because from the bilateral meetings that have happened, there's supposed to be a change of approach to”.
There are some issues that will be affected. As seen at bilateral meetings, there is a disappointment with the EU, whether on the issue of opening negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia, visa liberalisation and maintaining the status quo Kosovo-Serbia”.
We have to come back here after 1015 years, maybe like Northern Macedonia, and discuss the same issues. The Serbian president at the conference said Germany recognises Kosovo's independence and borders, but does not know whether Greece and Spain do. If the United States recognises Kosovo's independence, it doesn't know whether Russia recognises it. He made a warning about frozen conflict, which will wear us out. From Berlin this frozen conflict may not seem at all, but for those of us who live there, the duration of this political agony means that our lives will be difficult to do”.
