One of the most notorious thieves in Great Britain was found guilty of a series of thefts.
Known as “The Wimbledon Hawk”, 42-year-old Albanian Astrit Kapaj, acknowledged that he had stolen jewelry and worth 500 thousand pounds along 22 robberies in London's affluent neighbourhood since 2008.
It was earlier suggested that he was responsible for more robbery, at a total value of 10 million pounds, which would make him one of Europe's most successful “”. The 42-year-old brother said in court that Kapaj had emigrated to Great Britain in the 1990s with the claim that he was a citizen of Kosovo, but that he is actually from the village of Jorm of Vlora.
The father of two children lived and had a business in Manchester and traveled over 300 miles [300 km] to London to commit burglary during the night. The British police took 10 years to catch him because he was smart enough. He skillfully avoided alarms and entered the apartment through drain tubes. In the past, he had worked as an engineer and could disable security cameras.
British “Daily Mail” writes that Capaj's victims enthusiastically awaited the end of the terror caused by him, with some saying they would organise the holidays. Among other things, the Albanian has stolen the homes of former tennis legend Boris Becker and former football player Nicolas Anelka, who on one occasion chased him on foot but could not catch him.
