Vuciq: We cannot recognise Kosovo without taking anything in return

We need to reach a compromise first. We cannot recognise Kosovo, and take nothing in exchange for”, Vucic has said in an interview with the Italian agency ANSA, on the occasion of Italian Prime Minister Giusepe Ctete's upcoming visit to Serbia on Wednesday.

He said the issue of changing borders is a controversial topic, as they do not recognise all as equal borders, depending on whether they recognised Kosovo's independence or not.

“Unlike Kosovo leaders who daily deceive their citizens with unrealistic promises that Pristina will receive much, and Belgrade nothing, my job is for Serbs to explain the importance of compromise (with Pristina), which does not represent a defeat but a victory. Victory for the future of Serbia”, Vucic has said.

He has denied that there has been a meeting with Hashim Thaci to discuss the issue of compromise.

Vucic reiterated that Belgrade will not continue dialogue with Pristina unless Kosovo authorities remove the 100 per cent import of goods tax from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Unless a compromise agreement on Kosovo is reached will be a disaster. Although everything seems difficult and sometimes impossible, we are determined to reach a compromise, I am sure we can come to a solution with the help of our European friends and with the support of Russia, America, China and other countries”, the president of Serbia said.

Vucic also said he appreciates the mediating role of European diplomacy leader Federica Moghrini.

“The problem is between Serbs and Albanians from Kosovo, we cannot criticise Europe, which has done everything it can to maintain peace”, Vucic said.
