Reecker requires tax suspension: US-Kosovo Relations Under Threat

The future Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Asia Philip Reeker has once again called on Kosovo authorities to suspend the customs tax imposed on Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, so that it can pave the way for dialogue and achievement of the Kosovo agreement Serbia. These comments, the US diplomat made in Skopje [...]

These comments, the US diplomat took part in Skopje in a two-day security seminar, regional reports and economic development, “Balkan 360”.

The American diplomat has focused on the reports between Pristina and official Belgrade, with the indication that “the abnormalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia in the framework of dialogue being led by the EU, is the possibility of resolving the problem that cuts away the entire Balkans”.

If the official Pristina does not return to negotiations as it has said without conditions, then it would jeopardise its European future and not just”, Reeker said.

“We do not ask Kosovo to give the moon, but to remove the tax on products of Serbia and Bosnia for a certain time”, he said.

“will then be able to see what can be achieved at the negotiating table. No agreement has been signed until a deal is reached for all aspects of its”, Reeker stressed.

Kosovo, he underlined, loses nothing if it negotiates, but “could risk everything if it doesn't sit at the negotiating table”.

He has also invited Belgrade, which, according to him, has been aggressive in negotiating, to commit to normalising relations.

He has even cited US support for Kosovo, warning of the consequences that there may be a lack of tax, the REL reports.

Kosovo citizens are told that we understand your frustration, and we understand your desire to control your future, and to advance Kosovo's integration into the international system. The United States' support for your sovereignty and independence is not discussed, he said.
