The aircraft, a new product, recently introduced into airlines, disappeared from radar only 8 minutes after air-off. According to “Airlines Ethiopian”, 149 passengers and eight crew members died in the plane crash.
The company and the media have also published images from the site, where a bomb appears to have fallen over the destroyed site, and the bodies of victims covered in black bags are still seen on the ground.
Image publication took place shortly after the airline said everyone aboard the plane was dead.
Photo separated by the company on Facebook shows its CEO, Tewolde Gebremariam, visiting the horrible scene. The airline's executive said that “is sorry to confirm that there are no survivors”.
Although it does not indicate the complete extent of the tragedy, parts of the aircraft's air frame can be seen on the ground.
Passengers of 30 different nationalities were aboard the aircraft. There were citizens of Ethiopia, Canada, Italy, the United States, China, France, the United Kingdom, Egypt, Russia, and other countries.
Research and rescue operations began after the plane disappeared from radar. 737 MAX was found outside the Ethiopian city of Bishoftu, which is 60km southeastern of capital Addis Abeba.
The aircraft was very young and ordered by this airline only last year.
Meanwhile, “Boeing” wrote on Twitter that it is “closely monitoring the” situation, but made it clear that other aircraft of this type have no problems.
“Airlines Ethiopian” has a pretty good security record compared to other African carriers, even though one of their planes crashed into the Mediterranean Sea shortly after leaving Beirut in 2010.
