Serbia's Interior Ministry has not been informed by the Interpol headquarters in Lyon that Kosovo has applied again for membership, but we remain in the argument that Kosovo's accession would constitute a serious violation of international law and Interpol procedures, Serbian Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said.
“Representatives of Kosovo institutions undoubtedly did not understand the message of a large number of INTERPOL members from the General Assembly, more precisely than they want to politicise this professional police organisation and take Kosovo to Interpol”, Stefanovic told Tanjug.
The fact that almost 40 countries have expressed their voices is not clear that they told Kosovo there would be no violation of international law and INTERPOL rules”, he said further.
He has said Serbia will continue presenting arguments why Kosovo should not be part of INTERPOL.
Stefanovic said he expects to receive official information regarding Kosovo's application within the legal deadline means the next 30 days, as envisioned by regulations.
“We certainly stand in our argument that Kosovo's expectation would constitute a serious violation of international law and INTERPOL procedures”, he continued.
He has also said, citing Resolution 1244 that Kosovo is part of Serbia and cannot apply for membership.
Stefanovic has called the legal absurdity the restoration of Kosovo in the INTERPOL agenda.
Serbia and the Ministry of Internal Affairs will continue the fight to prevent Kosovo's accession, to protect our country's sovereignty, international law, but also a professional police organisation like INTERPOL”, Stefanovic said.
Kosovo has again attempted to membership in INTERPOL, and a letter to this has been sent to the International Police Organisation General Secretariat has been sent by Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj and Minister Ekrem Mustafa.
