President “The New York Times” writes that: Albanian police have busted an alleged network of visa counterfeiting and documents for illegal trafficking of people to Western European countries, Great Britain, the United States of America and Canada.
State police announced through a communique that 32 people -- including one border police officer -- were arrested, while four others are still on the run. Police have seized four workshops with equipment for producing counterfeit documents, aimed at trafficking people through Albania, Montenegro, Italy, Greece, France or Norway.
According to the police communiqué, migrants paid 10,000 pounds, or 13 thousand euros per person to go to Great Britain, and more than 20 thousand euros to go to the US or Canada.
The operation, codenamed “Gabuar”, follows another successful operation last year, where nine other citizens were arrested.
Albanian citizens can move freely without visas in most EU member states, but need to be equipped with visas to travel to Great Britain, the US and Canada.
