For a week now, Periscop has sent questions to the Kosovo Central Bank address, but so far they have not returned the answer to whether such a decision can be annulled.
This decision had raised citizens' discontent, as well as various groups such as “Maraklires” that rejected rising prices for auto insurance.
Representatives of this group on protest day had submitted several requests to the BEC, giving the latter five days for the suspension of the decision. But even though it's been more than two weeks on this job, nothing has moved. The BQK's decision continues to be in effect.
Agan Hajdahja protest organiser for Periscope has said they have hired a lawyer to analyse the situation on this issue.
There's no innovation, there's also a lawyer who's going to analyze the situation in detail, if with the support we've had on protest day we can't get rid of 26% we're going to try to find forms together with the lawyer that we're going to shrink through the bonus-malus, or any form that's going to ease the citizen's pocket”, he said.
According to him, if this approach doesn't work then they'll again come out in protests.
If we don't find dialogue either on this normal issue that we protest”, he added.
Former Finance Minister Avdullah Hoti has rejected the decision to raise tariffs for auto insurance. Giving a number of reasons, Hoti has noted that establishing this uniform price, unable to compete in the market.
It is clear that central bank governors have consistently failed to secure a competitive market that would enable the growth and diversification of insurance services for businesses and citizens. A Central Bank strategy for the development of this market is highly needed, co-ordinated with companies operating in this market. I am sure that there will be widespread debate in the Kosovo Assembly when the Central Bank's annual report, which would hardly receive the support of deputies”, was written among other things, Hoti.
We remember that vehicle insurance prices increased according to cubic centimeter, from lower to higher. For vehicles of between 0 and 750 cubic centimeters, for which 59 euros was paid, it is now paid 74,71 euros. Meanwhile, for vehicles that are over 2701 cubic centimeters, which have been paid 247.80, the insurance is now paid 313,78 euros./Periscopi/
