Tears of Joy, Alvin joins father and two sisters after returning from Syria

Alvin Berisha arrives in Italy. The 11-year-old Albanian-born was transferred on a planned flight from Alitalia (AZ 827).

He arrived from Beirut after 7: 00 p.m. at the airport in Rome, Fiumicino, where he was met by his father and two sisters.

The extraordinary “We have to work harder for the other children in Al-Hol and other fields in Syria. It's a complex situation, but if there is political will, it could become” writes the president of the Italian Red Cross, Francis Rocca.

At the age of 6, in December 2014, Alvin Berisha flew to Syria with his mother who wanted to join I SIS.
The Albanian baby, whose mother would die in an explosion along with their new husband and son, would then end up in Al Hol refugee camp, northeastern Syria, there and where it was found.

It took a well-organised operation by the Italian and Albanian authorities, as well as humanitarian organisations, to enable him to leave the camp and unite Alvin and his family.
