The incumbent Prime Minister, Ramush Haradinaj, has said the Monastery Congress proved to be the pillar of an important start for Albanian identity with great national intent.
Haradinaj on the 111th anniversary of what is known as the Alphabet Congress, via Facebook, said all Albanians gathered for a historic cause, Kosovo reports.
”111 years ago in Manastir began work towards the creation of a recognized Albanian alphabet. The monastery congress gathered patriots and intellectuals across Albanian lands to bring together about a historic cause. This congress would be the pillar of a very important start in Albanian identity that brought everyone together, indiscriminately, for a major national goal”.
On November 14, 1908, the Library Congress or the Congress of Alphabets began work in Manastir, with the aim of establishing a detected alphabet that would also be the beginning of whole Albanian literature.
150 delegates from all parts of Albania attended this convention, as well as from Albanian communities in Romania, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, America, and so on.
