Ecological Party Chairman: Citizens breathe more dust than air

The drop in temperatures has also restored increased air pollution levels in Kosovo. They display very disturbing levels of pollution, especially in urban areas like Pristina, Fushe-Kosovo, Obilqi and Mitrovica. The air quality index, measured by the American Embassy in Pristina this week, was at “unhealthy”, writes Koha Ditore.
Placing in the capital of four monitors, where citizens can see the level of air pollution, has prompted reactions last week. These monitors installed at four different locations are part of the JICA technical co-operation project, “The project of development capacity for air pollution control in the Republic of Kosovo”, worth 4m euros.
Citizens have welcomed monitors, but have also called for concrete measures to reduce pollution.
It would be better to create green spaces, watch out for the gases that come out of Obiliki, but it only wants to deceive the people, because that doesn't mean anything. Only you see pollution, dust does its job”, a Pristina citizen has said of KTV.
Even environmental experts have estimated that the high concentration of activities only on monitoring and reporting without activity does not work.
The Government's establishment of task-forces for handling the polluted air issue, they say, did not produce tangible results in addition to media noise, argument of failures and budget spending.
Part of the burden of failing to act in this regard is also blamed on environmental inspectors and courts, which they say are very inert and vulnerable especially to large pollutants, such as: KEK, “Ferroniki”, “SharrCemi”, etc.
The cause of inaction, numerous citizens of the country suffer from contaminated air.
The main contributors to pollution, according to Arif Krasniqi, chairman of the Ecological Party, are the thermoelectrics in Kastriot, the numerous vehicles that circulate in the capital, which have great size, as well as heating educational objects and houses, which alone have wood and the coal of beautiful poor quality. He has said that citizens breathe more dust than air into their organism.
