Since a year ago they heard only gunshots and screams, children returning from Syria will now attend school in the country. After returning from war centres, they have returned to school banks.

Currently, the lessons are following about 40 children who are in school age, while according to Kosovo institutions, their schooling is going according to plan.

In the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, all children returning from Syria at school are attending classes.

The officer for Non-form Education in August, Aferdita Jaha, has said that children from war grounds are integrated into schools along with their peers. So far, Jaha says everything about their schooling is going according to plan and that they have not accepted any complaints.

Regarding teachers and support staff dealing with the education of these children, she says the Ministry of Education has organised training.

The children are integrated into school together with peers under legislation, and the process is going well, we don't even have a complaint from the school, DEA or parents. We as August have provided training for teachers and school support staff in terms of integration of these children”, Jaha has said.

Jaha claims that the lessons are currently following about 40 children who have returned from war zones.

“Out of 74 incoming children, 36 children are between the ages of 0 and 3 (not included in gardens), remains the will of families to register or not), 38 children are involved in the education process (9 in the gardens, 5 in pre-school and 24 in schools), their age is from 0 to 18)”, said in the responses of August to Express.

In addition, Jaha says integration into the learning process will be offered to students whose age is older than their previous age with the pre-school education law to be regular students.

The “in September has begun teaching all school age students. Integration in the learning process is also offered to students whose age is older than their prior age with the pre - university education law to be regular students. August in cooperation with the DKA will offer accelerated teaching”, shows the August official.

The return of 110 Kosovo citizens from war zones, however, had opened another challenge for the state of Kosovo to reintegration them.

National Co-ordinator for the Prevention of Violent Extremism Fatos Makolli had long stated to the media that security institutions are doing their job. He had singled out as a <x0-phasis rehabilitation challenge, as returnees have spent difficult times in conflict areas, in countries where they lived, but also in various camps, where families have long been”.

The rehabilitation and reintegration of people returning from conflict zones where they have been for a long time, will be difficult, there will be big challenges”, Makolli had declared.

Otherwise, Kosovo became one of the first countries in the world to turn its citizens away from conflict zones in Syria. At midnight on April 19th, 110 Kosovars, including 32 women, 74 children and four fighters returned to Kosovo.

The day after their return, through a media conference, former Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri said the operation on the return of Kosovars was conducted in co-operation with the United States.

Tahiri said the women and children who returned from Syria had been victims of fraud.

These women deserve rehabilitation for a peaceful life, and these children in conflict areas have their place in schools to be educated on their future”, Tahiri had declared before journalists.

Returners from Syria settled at the Centre for Foreigners in the village of Vranidol, located on the outskirts of the capital. There they were kept for 72 hours, and then all the women and children were allowed to return to their families.

But before being released, women were interviewed by investigators, while Kosovo's Special Prosecutor resumed investigative procedures against 32 women, under suspicion of participation or union in terrorist organisations.

Otherwise, according to Kosovo authorities from the start of the war, there were about 400 Kosovars in Syria.

In 2015, Kosovo institutions drafted a special law, with which every person participating in foreign wars will be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.

The militant group Islamic State lost control over the territory it controlled and many fighters were arrested, while women and children are staying in various camps as countries from which they came have not accepted their repatriation.
