Tusk has said today that European Union leaders had a difficult debate on the issue of enlargement, where despite the demand for opening negotiations, this was not possible.
“Their biggest share required opening negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia, but despite this reaching a consensus last week did not become possible... This was a mistake, just like I told all these leaders”, he said. However, he expresses optimism as he shows he expects leaders to make the right decision when this issue is discussed again before the May summit in Zagreb.
