US State Department senior official David Kostalanchik spoke in Belgrade today about demarcation of the border between Kosovo and Serbia, or what is called changing borders.
He says the US have no stance on this issue and that the same should be addressed by Belgrade and Pristina, the news broadcast.
Asked by reporters in Belgrade that if the United States supported such an idea, he replied that his state is not positioned in these issues.
“The US does not take positions on these issues, these are problems Kosovo and Serbia must resolve with each other”, he has said.
Serbian journalists went even farther when they asked the US official about comparisons between Kosovo and Texas, on which case he said there is no connection.
In the end, Kostalanchik said that according to him mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia is the heart of the two-way agreement between states.
Kostalanchik is director of Central Europe at the U.S. State Department.
By contrast, at the Belgrade Security Forum where Kostalanchik spoke, former Kosovo-Serbia dialogue mediator Catherine Ashton is also participating.
