At least seven people have lost their lives in the Central European Alps over the weekend because of heavy snowfall and avalanche slides. Deadly cases have been recorded in Germany, Austria, and Italy.
Two avalanches left two German skiers dead in Austria's “Volreberg” mountains, while another skier died near Salzburg. In Germany's Bravaria region, a skier died after an oak fell, while a girl lost her life from the avalanche slide on the “Teisenberg” mountains.
Two other victims were reported in the Italian Alps. Rescue teams found their bodies at an altitude of 28,000m in the Alps stretching north of Turin. Authorities are continuing their search for some other missing people in the Alps.
Officials have activated the second alarm level for avalanches in the Austrian part of Tirol and in most of the Baharian Alps. Skiers have been advised to avoid skiing in dangerous areas, while many mountain roads have been shut down because of the risk of avalanches, writes “BBC” /Periscopi
