Pristina needs a new mosque, but Turkey's efforts to intervene in the new Balkan state with investments and accommodation are raising concerns. So writes the famous British newspaper, The Guardian, in an article published today about the construction of the great mosque in Pristina.
In the article entitled: Turkey's “Texture on Glass Sparks Fear of Non-Oomanism in Kosovo”, The Guardian It emphasises that despite the majority of Kosovo's population belonging to the Muslim religion, construction of the Great Mosque in Pristina, financed by Turkey, has raised concerns.
“Objection to many new mosques across Europe is rooted in the fear of Islam, but the fact that out of 20 people 19 are Muslims in Kosovo, resistance to the new Pristina mosque does not match that of Europe. Some local residents see it as a symbol of Turkey's dominant influence, while others suspect conversion of confidence in a secular public space”, writes The Guardian.
Among the most vocal opponents of the project are local architects, the British newspaper writes.
