13 women's deaths have occurred from over 1,000 cases of domestic violence during the January-September 2018 period in Kosovo.
So became known today during the presentation of the O report. SB's mostmatic on “The shelters for family violence victims in Kosovo”.
During the report's publication, it was said that for the state of housing for victims of domestic violence in Kosovo from this mission, domestic violence is observed in Kosovo at great proportions.
O mission chief The SEU in Kosovo, Jan Braathu, called the fact of the violence being done to women in Kosovo.
According to Braathu, the number of women who found shelter in shelter would be greater if they were well informed and available.
It's a scary fact, but it's not just here, it's in the world. The most dangerous place for a woman is to be at her home abused. Last year at least 13 have found death by violence. Thirty wives have been killed by men or fathers, which is that shelters are necessary to distance women from an abusive relationship. Last year 7 accommodations have offered shelters for 400 cases, the number would be higher if women were more informed”, he said.
Braathu said that despite the Kosovo government's making good laws, the challenge remains the budget sharing.
Kosovo has legislation and strategy for women's protection and is becoming a good job, as a result we support Kosovo institutions in the fight against violence, but that the big challenge for housing is the budget specifically shared for it, lack support from municipalities and donations. I'm sure Kosovo institutions will work, but even municipalities that this is not only of central institutions”, O mission chief added The SEU in Kosovo.
He also presented a problem with the lack of men's shelters, since, according to him, even a small percentage of men are beaten by their relatives.
Deputy Justice Minister and National Co-ordinator Against Domestic Violence Naim Celaj said Kosovo has good but unmet legislation.
“We have achieved large-scale identification of shortcomings in law enforcement. Kosovo certainly has very good legislation, but the impasse is in effect. Against domestic violence, all institutional measures must be taken, should be addressed by all institutions. As determined, the perpetrators of violence must leave, but in the conditions that our society lives, with unresolved property issues 90% of the cases is the outgoing victim. And the state and other partners have found the solution to these being sent to shelters because even in the past they have faced a lot of problems”, Celay stressed.
Meanwhile, Adele Shaqiri, from the Ministry of Labour and Social Goods, said that since yesterday even the Novoberda shelter had taken place in the country.
The budget we've shared that's not enough has become a successful monitoring where it turns out that the divided budget has gone to the right place so we can't say it's a little bit. With priority, we have raised the percentage of support, so we invite partners to continue providing services because they have profiled personnel”, Shaqiri has said.
1,129 cases of domestic violence, including seven people who suffered deaths, were reported by Kosovo Police in the January-September 2018 period -- more than 13% from a year ago. /Periscopi
