U.S. President Donald Trump has reiterated his threat of national emergency unless Congress approves his request for financing the building of the wall on the border with Mexico as part of the deal to end the government's partial closure.
The American president visited the border in Texas during the twentieth day of the government's partial closure. The visit is being praised as his attempt to win public support for his early promise of the wall, as negotiations with the Democrats have failed.
As he was leaving the White House, he declared before reporters that he would prefer an agreement with Congress to conclude the government's closure, but said he would use emergency competencies if no agreement is reached with Congress. “I have the absolute right to declare it”, he said.
If the government's closure continues to remain in force this weekend, it will be registered as the government's longest closure in U.S. history. The last time Trump visited the border with Mexico was in March of last year, when he had inspected several models of the wall near San Diego, writes the Guardian”.
