New Education Minister Besa Sahini in an interview for the “show this week” in news24) has shown details about how she was familiar with the proposal for new office, her relations with former minister Lindita Nicolas, and student protest.

In front of the Nisida Tufa moderator, Sahin claimed that from the moment he took up the post of deputy minister, he had thought that a moment might come and the number one of the Ministry of Education. She said it was Prime Minister Edi Rama's exclusive decision to become minister. As he paused extensively at student protests, which from December 5th require the fulfillment of their 9 requests, Sahin said he is working intensively on resolving these problems.

How did you feel at the post of deputy minister?

I've been working at the Ministry of Education for a year and I'm in Albania. I'm Albanian citizens. We have been trying to deepen co-operation with Kosovo and harmonise policies. We have co-operation with the Minister of Education in Kosovo. We'll continue this partnership. We must join forces to make the best of us and to produce it as a nation. I covered pre-university education. I have managed to monitor the part of the school book drafting and have managed to implement projects like; initiative 3 to 6. I've put the project forward. We do our homework.

How did you hear the news about you being ministries?

This is the prime minister's exclusive decision. When I've accepted the post of deputy minister, consider that it can happen at a moment that you can take over the post of minister. One more day may come when you can accept the minister's commission. At this moment there is sensitivity to the education system. I know the team there, we're empowering him. I hope we can use this moment, which was created by protests, for better ideas.

On 5 December, students started protests. How did the education ministry experience this protest?

We were worried the students weren't in class. We were constantly trying to see their demands and what we could do. Universities are autonomous. Most problems are university issues. The protest took place very quickly. The articulation they had at point 4 for VKM for carried credit, we decided to take it off immediately. When they came to the streets, they began to develop even bigger problems, such as the Law on Higher Education. We received more responsibility and came with a package, offer for the students.

Minister Nicolaus has been at the center of student attacks... what is your relationship with him?

Our relationship has been very good, and we've worked very closely. I have seen a style of government that impressed me. She's had the patience to hear a lot. The decision to change the curriculum was courageous, like it was 22 private universities. Students were in front of the ministry. And at a moment when they were asked whether Nicolaus should resign, they have expressed opposition. This is a conversation he may have had with the prime minister. Students have been calling for Nikolla's resignation, as she is not the person who carries the blame that exists in higher education.

Boycott at universities in Tirana, Elbasan and Gjirokastra, and Korca. . Why the problem?

The package we offered in December and the university pact is under way. Part of those decisions they made in December affect 90 thousand students. That used to blow up all that protest that was December. Now we have another problem where students write to us; we want to go back to class. They write us thousands of students, but they can't get in because there are schools where entrances and auditoriums are blocked.
