In an interview for Deutsche Welle, he has stated that when it is heard there is logic for problems to be solved in exchange for territories. But this is a wrong policy, a policy that tries to create monoethnic states, emphasising the work on removing borders within the EU rather than creating clean states ethnically with exchanges of territories.
But as asked what would happen if Serbia and Kosovo agreed with each other, Stefan Liebitch says: “We are not colonial powers. They're sovereign states and they can decide for themselves, if they want to, we have to accept it. Even before, there have been such cases as when Czechoslovakia became Czech and Slovakia, South Sudan was soon established. Such things are possible, fairly correct, and we have to accept them. But I personally think these don't solve the internal conflicts of each country”.
