The oldest cheese in the world is found in an Egyptian tomb, but it may be infected with a deadly disease.
The cheese was found in the tomb of Ptameti, a 13th century mayor of Egypt, and according to a new study in the magazine “Analytical Chemistry”, perhaps it is the oldest ever discovered cheese.
“Mostra was wrapped up in a broken jar”, said lead author Enrico Greco of Italy's Catanian University.
“Archoologists suspected it was some kind of food for the tomb owner and they decided to look for chemical analysis”.
The team used unusual scientific techniques to identify it as the remnant of a hard cheese produced by cow milk and goat milk.
They also found signs of a bacteria that causes potentially deadly br former disease, which spreads from animals to humans through unclean milk products.
The found monster is said to be 3200 years old.
