The four basketball players are Takuma Sato, Nagayoshi Yuga, Takuya Hashimoto and Keita Imamura, who had violated the rules and celebrated more than victory over Qatar at this event.
After the match, they paid four prostitutes to spend the night with them at a hotel in Jakarta, in one of the most controversial areas of the Indonesian capital.
Players wore national shirts while leaving the Olympic Village. The Japanese Basketball Federation's reaction has been serious, they were immediately excluded from the event under way in Jakarta and later suspended a year from all sporting activities.
“They tarnished the honour and trust of the sports world in Japan”, said Yuko Mitsuya, president of the Japanese Basketball Federation, while all 4 basketball players apologised for the incident.
They bowed to the media, but even this gesture was not enough to forgive. However, they will be able to train with their teams during this nonplay season.
