According to the writer's “The Sun” 51-year-old was held at a railway station by British transport police following allegations that he touched a female instead of inadequate.
A police spokesman was quoted as saying:
“The officials were summoned to Durham Station at 6:45 on Monday after reporting that a woman was sexually attacked on an interstate train from New York. A 51-year-old man from Gateshead has been arrested after suspected of sexual assault, while several hours later he was released on parole. Officials are continuing to investigate the event. ”
Gascoigne, who is facing a long battle of alcohol dependence, is said to have been released pending further investigation. The alleged incident took place at the Durham railway station Monday evening.
During his football career, Gascoigne became active with teams like Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Lazio, Rangers, Burnley, Everton and Midlesbrough.
