Albanian lawyer from the United States Roland Gjoni wrote on his Facebook account a post on the topic of border correction, writes Periscopi.
According to John, such a process would only benefit Serbia, while Kosovo's future would remain unclear.
He has placed five points in his post, each of which disputes such a solution for Kosovo. John does not believe that the correction of borders/translation of territories would offer Kosovo formal recognition from Serbia and open a clear European and international perspective.
This is his full post:
“to put points on “” is good to understand 5 giant disk error on border correction.
- The loss of territories is not the result of the US and EU policy change, but the source of the proposal is the Serbian leadership's desire to avoid recognition of Kosovo's statehood for an indefinite time. So the origin of the proposal is neither in Brussels nor Washington nor in Pristina, but in Belgrade and the fundamental reason is the decline of international interest in the Balkans and Kosovo.
- Territorial exchange is not the grand finale. For Serbia, it is not important how long correction lasts, but only opening the process brings immediate benefits. Any two-way process or international conference that precedes the recognition that inter-national statehood and subjectivity of Kosovo is suspended. While in the international arena Serbia is designed as a flexible state, without taboos and no red lines.
- Terriminating territories does not assure Kosovo membership in the UN because it does not depend on Serbia. It's classic fraud that Russia and China will accept any solution the parties agree on. Neither does Russia have the same interests with Serbia in the Balkans, nor is China obliged to veto themes on topics where China has no gain at all.
- The loss of territories does not ensure Kosovo's clear perspective in the EU. It is classic fraud that Spain and other non-recognitional states see the great love between the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia will accept Kosovo and speed up its integration. The truth is that Serbia speeds up the integration process as it has been from 2011 to today, while Kosovo has a clear European future in the current EU situation.
- The loss of territories does not pave the way for unity. Ahtisaari's restrictions and stops for joining Kosovo with other states are expected to remain in force as part of the guarantees for maintaining stability in Bosnia and Macedonia. It's the other thing if the Albanians plan and the capacity to move towards joining the international restrictions, but the important thing is that it doesn't remove the restriction Kosovo has accepted in 2008 from this process.
What can be said for sure is that Serbia expects Kosovo to make new wool without having to recognise Kosovo at the end of the process while Kosovo expects from Serbia benefits that it does not have but has Russia, China, the UN and the 5 non-recognitional states in the EU.”
