Because of migration and aging, the city lost much of its population, so urgent measures and steps were needed to prevent the city's extinction from being passed.
Those who choose to buy a house will have to rebuild using the traditional stone, wood and terakut for roofing, and perhaps employ local masons.
What makes this place attractive is that it is only 15 minutes from the beach and at the end of Nebrodi National Park, protected areas of mountain lakes and forests.
The city administration will now assess how many houses will be offered for sale and contact the owners. It is expected that the first houses will be on sale next year. Foreign citizens are also welcome.
San Piero Pat had 4,000 inhabitants 20 years ago, and today the number has decreased to 3,000. The city belongs to the region where there is a high percentage of unemployed. Over the past 16 years, Italy has abandoned 1.8 million people, half of whom are young between 15 and 34.
