Albania's Albanians, too poor either. 1% of the population has over 50,000 euros

The vast majority of Albanian families have incomes only for consumption and cannot afford to save money.

Top Channel publishes official data showing how much money Albanians have saved at banks and how these savings are shared.

According to an analysis of the Deposit Agency, total Albanian individuals have 2.4 million bank accounts. But, the majority of them are salary accounts or small deposits, and only 24 thousand Albanians, or less than 1% of the total population, have bank savings higher than 50 thousand euros.

Deposits in banks are the main forms where Albanian families preserve their financial savings, occupying 80% of the total savings, while the remainder are investment funds and government valuable letters.

According to official data, by the end of 2017, the total of deposits families in banks amounted to $922 billion, or about 7.5 billion euros. But as data from the Deposit Agency shows, only 1% of individuals have managed to save over 50,000 euros, while the rest have less than that.

The shortage of individuals who have more than 50,000 euros in savings shows that the majority of Albanian families have only consumer income and are unable to save enough money to be protected from difficult economic situations.
