This, she has said as part of her statement after American President Donald Trump's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with whom she has been insisting that “Russia has never been a friend of the United States and that she continues to be a threat to her and her allies”.
Joni Ernst has said “we should be careful about how we draw our relationship with Russia. I hope President Trump delivers a strong message behind closed doors, that Russia will continue to be punished for the illegal annexation of Ukraine in 2014, their disgusting support for Bashar al-Assad's assassination regime in Syria, and their aggressive actions in the United States, in domestic politics”.
Senator Joni Ernst visited Kosovo in 2016, and is known as one of the American politicians with the most friendly attitudes towards Kosovo and Albanians in general.
