He's suffering a lot. This innocent man of faith should be released immediately”, has added Trump.
Brunson was transferred to house arrest Wednesday after being arrested in the province of Izmir in December 2016. He's accused of spying for The PKK, known as a terrorist organisation in the US and Turkey, and the terrorist organisation FETO, which stands behind the July 2016 coup attempt.
Previously, US Vice President Mike Pence was also threatened via Twitter with a significant “sanctions on Turkey until this innocent man of faith is released”.
Izmir's Second High Criminal Court has said the decision to transfer Brunson to home arrest has been taken because of his health.
The court decided to allow Brunson to live at his address in Izmir, but banned him from “the settlement's abandoned” and from leaving the country.
After the decision, the clergyman left prison with a police escort after completing certain procedures. Authorities have taken extensive security measures at Brunson's residence.
