29-year-old Ervid Palaj from the village of Shirq of Shkodra lost his life yesterday under tragic circumstances on Velipoja beach.
The event took place at Wiluna, where the young man was with his fiancée and sister to spend several hours on the beach.
While the three were in the water, the sea beam has caused two girls to be in danger of life, and for that reason the young man has tried to give them help as far as possible.
But he has found himself in trouble between waves.
Palaj has been assisted by several other vacationers who have thrown two cameras thinking that the boy would be able to come out on his own, writes “Panorama”.
But the big waves beat him, and as a result, 29-year-old couldn't make it out.
Shkodra police announce that the event took place at 1: 00 p.m., when the sea was in waves and turmoil.
Despite the efforts of dozens of vacationers to come to the rescue, it has been impossible to keep alive. After the holidaymakers' desperate effort, there was no result in the intervention of the Velipoja Health Centre ambulance doctors.
This is the second tragic case in a few days in the Velipoja area, while the first victim was a vacationer from Kosovo.
Also, during this tourist season, there have been dozens of other cases of people who have risked drowning on Velipoja beach. The problem is the lack of towers for coastal guards, who most of the coastline have not been deployed. On the other hand, in a section where the observation towers are located there are no lifeguards on the beach or where they are, their presence does not have the right value in saving thousands of vacationers' lives. The young man's death becomes even more tragic because his sister was planning to organise the wedding ceremony next Sunday.
Ervid Palaj had only been engaged for six months while working in the social center in Dych as a social worker. While his fiancée has been working in Shkodra Baschia for about four years as part of the Social Services Directorate.
