Sokol Vokshi, an Albanian immigrant, has been detained by immigration agents and infiltrated Albania after being held two days in prison.
He had been in America for 24 years and was a waiter at a bar in Long Island.
“Daily Mail” writes that immigration agents have not even allowed them to inform the family that they were deporting it.
The 47-year-old Albanian, in the local where he worked, was known as “Sal, everyone's favorite waiter, writes “Daily Mail”.
According to the paper, restaurant customers have complained about Sal's absence at work.
Jimmy Trahanas, owner of the Golden Reef restaurant at Rockville Centre, said he didn't know what to do when Vokshi suddenly didn't show up for work. <
The “Klients were upset. Everybody was looking for it”, Trahanas said.
After his deportation, a campaign has been launched to raise funds in order to cover Vokshi's legal expenses. <
One poster hangs in a bar with two Sal photos and so far more than $11,600 from 168 different people who contributed.
This campaign, called “Get Sal Back to the USA”, was launched by client Warren Prosky on April 22nd of this year.
Sal arrived in the U.S. 24 years ago and worked at the golden Reef restaurant.
When immigration judges denied his request to live in the US in 1997 and asked him to leave, he appealed the decision.
“told me, stay, during your appeal. Keep working”, the Albanian tells, adding:
That's the thing I bring, I stayed, I worked, I got married, I had kids”
On April three, he had received a letter from ICE requesting a meeting.
Vokshi had appeared thinking it was another routine meeting, but then he had been cuffed.
Three days later she arrived at her sister's home in Albania.
I don't know this place” he said.
Vokshi said he is still paying $12,000 in annual real estate taxes at his home in Long Island and is trying to find work in Albania.
I go to restaurants and bars, but they don't hire me”, he said.
They think I'm old”.
He said that if he cannot obtain a visa to return to the United States, his wife and American-born daughter will join him in Albania. <
We can't separate. Our American dream is turning into a nightmare”, Vokshi said. ( TemA)
