Reaching an agreement within a few months between Kosovo and Serbia is estimated to be in Serbia's favour, as it enables it to move towards membership in the European Union, while Kosovo remains far apart from that process.
The opposition and civil society say Kosovo should not continue the final phase of the dialogue without reaching an internal consensus, the newspaper “Zer” writes today.
Serbia is pressing to complete the dialogue with Kosovo within this year so that the sooner it opens the remaining chapters under the negotiations for membership in the European Union.
However, the Kosovo opposition and civil society estimate that Kosovo should not be hasty as it is still far from EU membership, so they say that the internal consensus must first be reached and the final phase of the dialogue, which is beginning on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Serbian media during Tuesday reported that the European Union has made it clear to Serbia that reaching a legally binding agreement with Kosovo is crucial to Serbia's path towards European integration.
Several recommendations for Serbia are included in the document prepared by the Council of Ministers, and it becomes clear that it should accelerate negotiations with Kosovo for normalising the reports.
