Official NATO: Dialogue with Serbia depends on your leadership

NATO Parliamentary Assembly President Paolo Alli has talked about relations between Kosovo and Serbia and has said the whole process of dialogue depends on the leadership of Kosovo.

This is a major political issue and depends on your leadership. I know Hashim Thaci and Aleksandar Vuciq are meeting, have planned a host of meetings, I believe they will do their best”.

“One of the major concerns is normalising relations with Serbia. This is another condition that has been called for the possibility of NATO and EU membership”.

This is not an easy thing, it's complicated but I have seen that there is will from the Kosovo leadership, and the same is true of Serbia's leadership”, Alli said during an exclusive interview in Info Magazine.

It is difficult to determine when these issues will be resolved, but normalisation is an essential condition for stability, peace and security in the region”.

“NATO and the EU are seeking sustainable solutions in relations between Kosovo and Serbia. We cannot say for sure how this will be done after such a thing remains your leadership to find the opportunity, but what is essential even in the interest of Kosovo and Serbia is to find that solution”.

The president of the Parliamentary Assembly, says recognition between the two countries would be ideal.

We haven't talked about specific agreements, or recognition, we talked about normalisation, finding a way to manage the situation and prepare the terrain for a permanent solution. That I suppose to be mutual recognition”.

He has said the NATO Assembly supports all forms of dialogue, as well as that between Thaci and Vuciq.
