Good news for Kosovars: Restriction lifted for old cars import

Cars older than ten years could be registered by Kosovo citizens. This restriction was in the Law on Automedias, with a provision today removed from the law by the votes of members of the Economic Development Commission. He was the deputy. He was the deputy. The PDK, Mergim Lushtaku, who demanded that this restriction be lifted and was supported by his MP colleagues.
Lushtaku has also called for a change in Article 63 of this law for high vehicle registration costs, in this case in the process of changing the owner.
Lushtaku's proposal has also been supported by colleague Sala Berisha -Shala, who said that even in terms of vehicle control, there are violations of free competition.
In my opinion, this is the stuff done to citizens, I didn't want to express this case before, but it's really a robbery when someone has a car, records it, and then wants to sell it to another owner, and that owner has to pay for the car registration and technical control from the start. Those tools are neither returned to the old owner nor delivered to the new owner. So we as deputy every day during the meeting with citizens, they express these sorrows, but of course it's disturbing to us too, but for Government it has to be even more disturbing”, Lushtaku said.
These proposals have rejected representatives from the Infrastructure Ministry Avdi Cameroll.
According to him, there is no need to be a change of the law on the removal of the automotive definition, because according to him, Kosovo is transformed into cemeteries of rotten vehicles, which also endanger traffic.
“Change below 44 and 63 and 39 is unnecessary and unreasonable for the Ministry of Infrastructure, the proposed changes create opportunities for automotive import market disorder, at the expense of the safety of road communication and the health of citizens in general. These legal changes, Kosovo, turn it into tombs of old and rotten vehicles that pollute the environment, where their active and passive security is flawed. New vehicles are safer in road traffic”, Cameroll said.
But Lushtak's proposal was supported by opposition MPs.
The LDK's Hikmete Bajrami has said that changing Article 44 for the removal of the automotive age criteria should be well analysed, while supporting change of Article 63 for the vehicle registration process.
Bajrami: Removing the definition of cars should be well analyzed, I think it had a positive effect.
“As far as Article 44 is concerned about removing the age criteria of cars, I consider that we need a slightly more detailed analysis of whether citizens are really injured, as the number of other old cars is down... I think such a criterion has had a positive effect either on environmental protection or on the complete change of cars”, Bajrami said.
Restriction of the age of import vehicles has been supported by VV deputy Lieburn Aliu, who said a car may be old, but probably meets the criteria and standards for pollution.
Without a vote against members of the Commission for Economic Development have backed MP Mergim Lushtaku's initiative to change the Automotive Law.
Limited import of cars older than ten years went into effect on January 1, 2018
