LGBT community has been banned from blood donation under the week of blood donation
This is happening because of a questionnaire that prohibits blood donation to this category of society.
It says that “you should never donate blood if you have intimate relations with the same gender person”.
Organisations protecting the rights of the LGBT community reacted by naming it discrimination.
I see a friend waiting and trying to donate blood because he's “gay”. I know this was done to prevent the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases, but not all people “gay” are affected by AIDS”, says about RTV Dukagjin Lendi Mustafa, activist in the CEL organisation.
Meanwhile, beauty blood transfusion director Raqa Joupi said that this form was created on the basis of European standards.
“These temporary or permanent withdrawals from the blood donation are made on the basis of the European Union directive, under which this form has been created”.
She says these people are much more likely than other people to carry various viruses, including HIV.
“There are various researchs that have been done that have turned out that blood donors belonging to this group (LGBT) are able to carry hepatitis b, hepatitis c and HIV for 60 to 600 times more than those that do not belong to this group”, adds fine Director Raqa Joupi.
