Germany's ambassador to Belgrade, Axel Ditman, has said it is in the best interests of Kosovo and Serbia that an agreement on normalising relations between the two countries is reached as soon as possible.
In an interview for “B92”, Ditman has said the importance of normalising reports between Pristina and Belgrade lies in the fact that the European Union does not want conflicts between countries of the region
It is important that Kosovo and Serbia resolve their problems, because we do not want conflicts in the EU. History teaches us that unresolved border issues cause numerous problems and of course we don't want that to happen, so it is true that prior to Serbia's EU membership, the Kosovo issue” must be resolved, Ditman said.
According to Ditman, it is important that a solution between the two countries be reached as quickly as possible, and that this would be good for both sides.
He also spoke of Germany's involvement in the Pristina- Belgrade dialogue, which he said the European Union has its main role, but the German state has its role.
“Dialogue is being run by the European Union, and we are involved, but we will let Brussels do its work”, Dimman concluded.
Otherwise, talks between Kosovo and Serbia were interrupted since the arrest in Mitrovica of the so-called Kosovo office director in Serbia's government, Marko Djurovic.
