The European Union's top immigration officials have acknowledged that no North African country has yet to accept immigrants in centres for them, the Guardian reports.
Details of an EU plan to prevent migrants from drowning in the sea have emerged Tuesday after Italy criticised the agenda of an emergency meeting for failing to obtain sufficient assistance for the arrivals.
Dimitris Avramopolos, European Commissioner for Migration, said the EU wanted to “intensify co-operation” with Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Nigeria and Morocco, to create a regional “scem of landing”.
So far, no African country has agreed to do that, he has confirmed.
The idea for immigrants' proceeding centres is still mere sketches, with many political, practical, and legal issues that need to be answered. /Periscopi
