FSP grave accusations against Minister Luka: If necessary, we will protect Telekom with life

It has been reported in the media today that Minister of Economic Development Valdrin Luka has said the salaries of Kosovo Post and Telecom workers will drop by 40 per cent. But just a few hours later, the minister himself came up with a Facebook note saying these are speculations and that he or any other official did not claim something like that.

The immediate reaction has also been to the Independent Union Federation of PTK)- The FSP, who have said that in no way would allow such pay cuts. They have even accused Minister Luka of being assistant to the Z-Mobile operator and that he wants to do so to the owner of Kosovo Telecom.

This union has invited workers, civil society and MPs to protect Telekom from extortion and bankruptcy.

Minister Luka today has said that everything about this 40 - percent decline is speculation, even counting on the problems Post is facing.

The 40% wage cut for Kosovo Telecom is a speculation and has never been said by any government official. At no moment have I mentioned the idea of drastic falls of wages as spoken at portals through a news story written by KosovoPress”, Minister Lu Lukas wrote.

What the minister has said, as he has written on Facebook, is that “Telecomi is in serious crisis and prior to bankruptcy, which was reported by the Board of Telecom itself and, as a result, measures will be taken to save this strategic asset for the country”.

“Telecomi has a loss of 15 million euros a year and must be found forms of how to cover these losses. The measures first will focus on reducing operational spending such as rents, maintenance costs and marketing. If these measures are not enough to cover all losses, then the wages for the remaining loss would also be affected. No form of reduction will be 40%.”, the minister wrote.

He has said that another week the ministry will accept the restructuring plan from the Board of Telekom, where he says emergency measures should be introduced by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo's Board of Telekom with approval.

“As Minister of Economic Development, I am steadfast in protecting public interest and business of public enterprises. Kosovo's telecom is the property of citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, therefore cannot remain indifferent to the danger facing this company and which can quickly go bankrupt. Along with the prime minister, the Board of Directors and the Workers' Union, we will address the problems and stop the company's bankruptcy, despite pressures of discontent”, the minister has written all over the end.

When all of us are for a better Kosovo without crime and corruption today, the minister without even taking it out requires that millions who are deprived of crime be paid with workers' salaries.
