Scientists have found a rare mineral in lunare meteors that suggest that ice water may be hidden under the moon's surface.
A new study shows that traces have been found in the rare moganite mineral, a lunar meteor found 13 years ago in northwest Africa, broadcasts Kosovas.
Mogamite, which is quartzlike crystal, requires the presence of water to form, so its discovery is seen as a new fact about the existence of frozen water under the surface of our single satellite.
It is known that there was water in the northern and southern poles of the moon in the past.
The team of scientists from Tohoku University in Japan believes that the mineral was formed on the surface of the moon, in the region known as the Terrane Procelarum.
“For the first time we can prove that there is ice in the lunar” material, said Masahiro Kayama, head of the study.
However, scientists say that they do not realize that there is more water on the moon.
They believe that more samples are needed to gather from the moon's surface in order to confirm this statement.
